April the 2nd 2006Hi there! How are you? Hopefully all of you survived April fools day. Yesterday I got some very good news. If you are one of the persons who also visits my account at Deviantart you already may know what I'm talking about. Anyhow, I won a prize at a fantasycontest. A few weeks ago I submitted an artwork that listens to the name 'The end of magic'. And guess what? I'm one of the three people who received a honourable mention. The prize is a paid subscribtion for three months at Deviantart. It feels special, especially because there were 79 entries for the contest and some of them were real good.
Still no art here at 'Like a dim image in a mirror'.
But don't worry I'm already busy with some things and hopefully I can
show them to you real soon. I'm also in the proces of creating a new layout.
It looks good and very 'Johnish'. Hmmm, so far so good eh! But on the
other hand; I'm so attached to this layout with Angelina Jolie that it
is hard to let her go. Feels almost like breaking up with my girlfriend
..... sigh! Something else now. I've got a new affiliate and his
name is Geoff.
He's a photographer from the United Kingdom. This guy is very talented.
His current layout has some real class and I would call the style 'semi
grunge'. I'm happy to have him as affiliate. Together with Thomas
from France and Leo
from Argentina he's the third male affiliate from 'The dim image'. Speaking of my affilates ..... please visit them all. They are unique in their own way and I'm sure that you'll appreciate their hard work. Meliane for example has everytime a new layout, this Canadian girl is really talented. Connie is my 'neighbour' with a very divers and mixed style. I can go on naming them all, but I won't. Just visit them and write something nice in their shoutbox or guestbook. And Tine if you read this 'I'm still waiting for a shoutbox on your site'. I mis giving feedback when I visit your Brushwinged. All the best, John
Thank you Mel,
Connie and
Rebecca
for the messages in my shoutbox. Love you ..... |
March the 12th 2006It's important to do the things in life that one really likes. In my case; creating art. It doesn't matter if it's on stage or behind the computer. Both forms are a way to express my thoughts and emotions. Ways to show my innerself ..... Since a few days that innerself can also be seen at Deviantart. Yours truly has his own artaccount, you can visit it here.
Ofcourse it's not fanart based, but it's a good choice. I needed that balance really much. Because you use photographs from 'real' people you can hear from themself what they think about your work. Working with pictures from actors/musicians feels a little bit distant. It's a fase, I know. I'll create fanart again, but not now. I want to focuss my time at those 'unknown' people that I'm portraiting. At the moment I've only got three artworks that can be seen over there. It looks a little bit different then the artworks on this site. But if you are familiar with my style, you certainly can recognize 'John's touch' in them. My artworks that are displayed at Deviantart reflect my love for antique paintings. I can remember that my mother followed some artclasses. I was about 7 or 8 years old. She introduced me to Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Vermeer and all those other classical painters. For hours I could look at the pictures in her artbooks. I've become older now, but the love and those childhood memories remained. Like a dim image in a mirror, indeed ..... When I look or talk about art my mother sometimes still can recognize that childish side of mine.
Other news: I've got a new affiliate. It's the extremely talented Tine from Brushwinged. I'm so haaaaaaappy to have her as my affiliate.
Thank you: Leo, Elli, Elinia, Meliane and Tine for your comments in my Shoutbox.

February the 7th 2006My first artwork in the 'Me' section of this site. It's a selfportrait with the name 'When my wings are tired'. It's based on an older artwork that was also a selfportrait in a similair style.
Other news: Thank you Lily and Elinia for the messages you left in my shoutbox.

Januari the 29th 2006Can you believe it? This is my first update since december 2005! I have been extremely busy with other things. Anyway, an update wouldn't be an update without a new artwork. Would it? Again I used a picture of Demi Moore. It's called 'And blessed is the fruit of thy womb'. I love old and antique paintings. Like the ones from Rembrand, Rubens etc. As always created with only brushes. The 'textured canvas look' is achieved by using a brush that has been created from scratch. To give it more depth, I used the sharpen tool. Not with the default brush-tip, but (again) with a custom made brush at a very low opacity. The surround faces are are manipulated pieces from the main portrait. A typical 'John artwork' that perfectly reflects the athmospere from my site.
Other news: First I'd like to thank everybody who wrote something in my shoutbox. I appreciate each and everyone of them. To Connie: I haven't forgot you so don't get mad at me. As my 'neighbour' you certainly know what 'Brabants kwartiertje' means. Only this 'Kwartiertje' is more extended so to speak. I got to two new affiliates! The first is Meliane from 'Her Enigma' and the second one is Elinia from 'Elinia's Spirit'. Be sure to see the artworks from these talented girls!!!!!
Last but not least: Thank you Ron for the warm welcome you gave us today at your studio 'Art Vision'. The art was absolutely wonderful and very divers. Marco made me curious and I hope to see his airbrusings real soon. |
